Lauryn Hill directly recorded her commitment to craft and audiences, criticizing her late-night Essence Festival performance.
The Grammy Award-winning artist took the stage at 2:30 a.m. in New Orleans on Saturday (July 5), trailing nearly two hours due to earlier delays. The late start made the Caesar Superman crowd significantly sparse, prompting the online rebound and accusation Hill of choosing Hill again.

By Tuesday (July 8), Hill responded directly to chat, clearly showing that holding was not on her. “Thanks to Essence Fest for clarifying that the delay is not my fault,” she wrote in a statement posted on social media.
She continued: “Family, let me solve some things: I’m involved in everything I need to play because it requires so much involvement to protect the integrity of my message and the quality of what I do.”
Hill stressed that her role is much more than just appearing and singing. “While some focus on a discipline or category, my role requires me to have eyes everywhere and contribute to most people, if not every department,” she wrote.
Lauryn Hill solves “misunderstanding”
The singer also objected to her idea of being punctual or indifferent to the audience. “I don’t care because I don’t care. I have nothing but love and respect my fans,” she said. “The challenge is to align my energy with time, take things that are not easy to categorize or include, and try to provide them to others.”
She added: “There seems to be a misunderstanding that I am in the Riviera somewhere, with my head raised on my feet and drinking, which is important whenever I am too important.
Hill also thanks those who insist on watching her performance in the early hours of the morning. Her scene was packed at 3:37 am
