Lato may have taken some subtle jabs at Ice Spice lately, but she’s not planning on getting into a real barroom feud with the Bronx native.
The Atlanta rapper addressed the issue in a new conversation with Billboard earlier this month.
When asked if she would have a real feud with Ice, like Kendrick Lamar and Drake, Lato said: “I mean it in the best possible way.” [way]: I am a music fan. I’m not a “lyrical, everything else is nonsense” type of person. There’s a lot of sub-genres that I love – like Mosh Pit type music; I love that type of shit when Drake’s in his melodic bag – and all of that is still hip-hop.
She continued: “If I were to do [a battle], it had to be someone I felt I would be going toe-to-toe with. I don’t really mean it’s a shade. Is she even willing to do this? I feel like she’s in her lane doing her thing. These are two different types of resonance. I don’t even think she would have made me feel like, ‘Oh, she wants to be part of a real rap beef.
Back in February, Ice Spice took aim at Latto in her song “Think U the Shit (Fart),” in which she rapped, “My feet are on their necks, I can’t let go/She’s all On the floor, tell her to get up.
Lato, in turn, fired back at Ice Spice on “Sunday Service,” rapping: “You thought I was the shit, bitch, I know, ho/Jesus walked on water, but my ice boiled.”
The song also includes other, less obvious attacks on her contemporaries, including: “These bitches are corny, once the monkey sees it, then you know what the monkey is doing / Are you rapping or tweeting? / ‘Cause I don’t know, get in the booth, bitch” and “I just want one on one, don’t know why she’s so nervous.
Lato also threatened that she and Spice would clash if they were booked on the same bill: “Every time you book me and their hoes, it’s going to be a big farce.”
Ice Spice explained that “Think U the Shit (Fart)” is a “homage” to female rappers past and present — “even the ones I’m complaining about.”
However, Ice Spice later admitted that the song was indeed about Latto.
