Rapper Killer Mike, who is undeniably one of the greatest hip-hop lyricists of all time, also recently faced arrest following his Grammy win, and he addressed the incident in a new song.
The winner of Best Rap Album (as well as two other awards) at the coveted event performed “Humble Me” on (and around) February 4, 2024, rapping about his The heart of these events, when he was handcuffed shortly after being honored.
Of course, the song is a deeply personal memoir of gratitude and sees the rapper exploring his relationship with God and success. “All my heroes have been handcuffed and mistreated in some way. I just thank God for the moment I became Daniel in the lion’s den. I came out of prison in the pouring rain and saw my wife waiting I lit up a joint, celebrated, and woke up to the news about my son’s kidney luck.
It’s so humbling to be nominated for Album of the Year at the @betawards and not be allowed to do it in the building since it’s held at the same venue as the Grammys. It’s also humbling that @BET and @AEGpresents went to such lengths to correct this mistake so I could attend. Thank you… pic.twitter.com/UCYUUDKHCB

“The next day I was in the studio. I was inspired as always and I was just following the music at the moment. . The song itself comes with a monochrome music video that depicts Killer Mike as a singer adorned with jewelry and material A successful legendary star, but it was slowly taken away from him by a pair of anonymous hands.
More interestingly, though, the film also captures footage of Mike and his son Ponyboy standing together after receiving a kidney transplant, alive and well. “I believe that humility and worship have given me God’s grace in the face of trials, and I believe that my son receiving a kidney is a blessing from God,” he said, ending the conversation on a humble note.
Thank you @BET, it’s an honor to receive this award from our people.

That said, it looks like Mike will be talking more about such personal themes on his next album, which is being touted as a coda to his last album, Michael , and the narrative contained therein. It’s also worth noting that Mike returns to the same place where he was arrested the last time he won a jackpot (the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles), which is a rather poetic moment. After all, Mike did come to the theater to witness another honor, winning Album of the Year for Michael the day before he released “Humble Me.”
The rapper is currently touring in triumphant fashion as part of his Down By Law tour (interesting choice of name, isn’t it?!), which he also performs as part of his excellent The Mighty Midnight Revival ensemble International tours in support of his performances. The rapper will be hyping up the new project and slowly ending the Michael era, hinting that all the talk surrounding his arrest will be based on it. Fans can hear it as early as this summer—and we’re ready! Check out the track below.
