Kid Cudi unveils the latest chapter of his INSANO era, set in Asia – an INSANO (NITRO MEGA) cut “Superboy” music video set in South Korea.
The clip was directed by Cudi and veteran filmmaker Jason Goldwatch and was shot during Cudi’s 2023 visit to the country. Among the locations are Dongdaemun History and Culture Park in Seoul.
“Love everyone I meet on my journey and a huge shout out to The Teriyaki Boyz, especially my friend Verbal!” Cudi wrote on the X after the clip was posted.
Check out the video below.
“SUPERBOY” appears on the February 2024 LP INSANO (NITRO MEGA), which is a companion to Cudder’s INSANO released last month.
HipHopDX’s Sam Moore writes: “NITRO MEGA isn’t just a bonus version with a few bonus tracks, it’s a massive 18-track album, which is an indication of what this otherwise decidedly uneven original album might have been like. .
“NITRO MEGA is less about chasing the trap bounce of close collaborator Travis Scott and more about Cudi’s hometown presence, combining his melancholy vocals with futuristic sounds from a massive wall of influence.
“While INSANO discovered Cudi in a more public celebratory mode, NITRO MEGA had more reflective moments but also felt the pressure of being deemed not good enough for a first release.”
Moore particularly praised “SUPERBOY.”
“The album… surges positively in the final section and ends on a high with the dramatic “Superboy,” which captures the ethereal quality of Cudi’s earlier work, although it does lack the thematic and lyrical depth of something like “GHOST!” . From Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Reg,” he wrote.
In addition to the new video, Cudi has also released new music. Earlier this week, he released Dreams I Saw to accompany his latest comic book.
Produced by Rami Beatz and Matt Spatola, the song features Lonely Stoner rapping, singing and humming over a sparse but drum-filled backdrop, delivering a throwback version of “Man on the Moon” Atmosphere.
The song accompanies the latest edition of Mr Rager’s Moon Man comic book series, which hits shelves on Wednesday (July 10) and further brings his sonic world to life in illustrated form.
The new songs and comic book also come with a limited-edition apparel collection, featuring four designs based on artwork from the latest releases in the series.
