Well, of all the things we expect Kendrick to release this month, a leaked verse from Frank Ocean’s “Nights” isn’t one of them. However, here we are, and we’re not complaining. One really never knows what’s going to happen with Kendrick style-wise, other than he’s definitely going to be experimenting in one form or another.

Now, it’s a mystery why the Kendrick feature on Frank’s record never came out. In fact, we don’t even know if this will be the last feature Kendrick records for the collaboration. Firstly, it seems rather unpolished and raw, and most importantly, it seems more like an idea poem meant to narrow down possible directions in terms of songwriting than an actual final product.
Anyone who’s listened to Kendrick’s other outrageous leaks knows that this guy likes to take a chance and try everything before taking a mature, precise, and well-thought-out approach. This verse is no exception.
While there are similarities in the storyline and other cultural themes, nothing really fits together in the sense of cohesion with the featureless Frank record. In fact, it wouldn’t be too bold to think that this Frank Ocean-only song is more of a soulful record than any other album, let alone Kendrick’s.
After all, some records are too beautiful and personal to represent anyone else. Nights is no different, Frank Ocean fans will definitely agree. what do you think?
