Kendrick Lamar surges to No. 1.
Kendrick Lamar takes the official UK and iTunes No. 1 album this week with his sixth studio album GNX.
The album, which was surprisingly released digitally only last Friday, has soared to the top of the UK charts. GNX is the Compton rapper’s second album to top the UK charts, following 2015’s critically acclaimed To Pimp a Butterfly.
Kendrick has also reached the UK top 20 with four other albums: 2012’s Good Boys, mAAd city (No. 16), 2016’s Untitled Unmastered (No. 7), and 2017’s Damn. (2), and 2022’s Mr. Morale and the Striders (2), his last film.
Physical copies of GNX are expected to be available in early 2025.
Mercury Prize-winning singer-songwriter Michael Kiwanuka holds on to second place with his fourth top-five album, Small Changes. In the UK, 87% of Kiwanuka’s album sales came from physical formats, placing it at the top of both the Official Record Shop Chart and the Official Vinyl Chart.
In the latest iTunes US Hip-Hop Album Chart, Kendrick Lamar’s GNX also occupies the top spot.
Other noteworthy entries include:
Juice WRLD’s “The Party Never Ends” lands at No. 2, marking a major posthumous release. J. Cole’s “Friday Night Lights” ranked No. 3 and has remained popular since its release in 2010. Ice Cube’s “Man Down” lands at No. 4, demonstrating the veteran rapper’s continued influence.
Skyzoo’s “Keep Me Company” lands at No. 5, showing a strong debut from the artist.
