Duane “Keefe D” Davis, the accused mastermind behind the 1996 murder of Tupac Shakur, may soon see the light of day.
According to court records, Keefe D has been released on $750,000 bail for possible release from the Las Vegas County Jail.
Court officials confirmed that a company called E-Bail facilitated the bond required for Keefe D’s release.
In Keefe D’s case, Nevada law requires the defendant to post 15% bail to secure his freedom, which amounts to approximately $112,000.
This fundamental will be critical as the Court considers Davis’ oversight and future actions.
Keefe D was arrested last September and charged with masterminding the conspiracy that led to the 1996 shooting death of Tupac Shakur on the Las Vegas Strip.
Although police claimed he was not the shooter, he admitted to helping plan the attack on Tupac, which led to the indictment.
“Duane Davis was the mastermind of this criminal group,” said Lt. Jason Johnson of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. “He orchestrated the plans he executed.”
The convicted gangster has pleaded not guilty to one count of murder with a deadly weapon and still maintains his innocence.
Although Keef D has claimed a role in Tupac Shakur’s death in his memoir and in multiple interviews, he insists he had no involvement.
He claimed that the accounts presented therein were for entertainment purposes and financial gain and were never based on verified facts.
“The authenticity of the interview has never been confirmed,” Davis’ defense team noted. “This book and interview are all about entertainment and making money from situations like this. [former LAPD detective Greg] Cardin and others have profited from it.
Keefe D’s trial, originally scheduled for June, has been moved to November 4 due to various delays.
An upcoming bail hearing on June 25 will determine whether Keefe D can stay out of jail awaiting trial.
