Kamala Harris has responded to Donald Trump’s claims about her racial identity after he claimed she suddenly “became black.”
The Democratic presidential candidate called out her political rival’s comments in front of the National Association of Black Journalists on Wednesday (July 31).
Harris addressed a crowd at a gathering of Sigma Gamma Ro sorority in Houston, claiming Trump’s comments were divisive and disrespectful.
“This is the same old show,” she said of Trump’s appearance on the NABJ panel. “Divisive and disrespectful. I just want to say that the American people deserve better… The American people deserve a leader who tells the truth. A leader who doesn’t respond with hostility and anger when faced with the facts. We There should be a leader who understands that our differences do not divide us—they are an important source of our strength.

Donald Trump questions whether Kamala Harris ‘happens to be black’
During the convention, Trump suggested Harris “might” be a DEI employee, a term that has become a racist whistle-stop in right-wing circles.
“I didn’t know she was black until a few years ago when she happened to be black,” Trump said of Harris. “Now she wants to be called Black. So, I don’t know. Is she Indian or black? I respect either one, but she clearly doesn’t because she’s always been Indian and then all of a sudden, she transitions. She became a black man and I think someone should investigate this.
Meanwhile, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre slammed Trump’s remarks.
“As a person of color, as a black woman in this position,” she explained, “what he just said, what you just read to me is abhorrent. It’s insulting.

“Today’s tirade was just one example of the chaos and division that has been a hallmark of Trump’s ‘Great Again’ rallies throughout his campaign,” the statement read. “And that’s what the American people will see on the debate stage. ” because Vice President Harris offers a vision of opportunity and freedom for all Americans.”
