KA$HDAMI has a keen eye for production. He sounds modern yet harkens back to the airy, cloudy rap instrumentals that dominated the early 2010s. He’s managed to add a modern sheen to the style, as evidenced by his catchy new single “SEANCE.” KA$HDAMI rides a start-stop tool, which gives him room to find different flow pockets and place smooth bars around the flow. It’s catnip for fans of the rapper, but those unfamiliar with KA$HDAMI will still be able to connect with the star ensemble.
KA$HDAMI applies the meaning of “SEANCE” (an allusion to communicating with the dead) to his money. “Talk to money, talk dead, like a séance,” he complained. “Yeah, talk to money, talk dead, like a séance.” It’s an earworm, and after the first listen, you’ll find yourself rapping along. The shimmering synths in the chorus really make this song stand out. But it turns out that the ending is the song’s secret weapon. “SEANCE” slows down the tempo and takes on a more somber atmosphere in the final 15 seconds. KA$HDAMI has a new album coming soon, and if this single is any indication of what’s to come, we’re in for a treat.
