Over the weekend, news broke that Robert Downey Jr. will be returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in two upcoming films, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars . He was announced as Doctor Doom at San Diego Comic-Con on July 27, a moment that went viral on social media. In footage from the event, he dramatically ripped off his mask, before the crowd unsurprisingly went wild.
Of course, fans are anticipating the return of RDJ, although the news has also reignited discussions surrounding Jonathan Majors. Majors has previously played Kang and will reprise the role in Avengers: Reign of Kang, which was announced a few years ago. However, late last year he was found guilty of assaulting his ex-boyfriend Grace Jabari. As a result, Marvel severed ties with the actor.
Jonathan Majors says he’d love to play Kang again in the future
The news has fans speculating about how devastated Majors must be about the news, which he confirmed in a recent interview with TMZ. The outlet caught up with him in West Hollywood yesterday to ask if he was upset about Marvel Studios’ decision to go in a new direction. As expected, he is, as he grows fonder of his iconic character. “Yeah, heartbroken,” he explained. “Come on, yeah, of course. I love him. I love Kang.” They then asked Majors if he would be interested in playing Kang again in the future. According to him, if it’s what fans and Marvel Studios want, he’ll be on board.
“Yeah… if this is what the fans want, if this is what Marvel wants, then let’s do it,” Majors confirmed. Jonathan Majors admits he’s “heartbroken” over Marvel Studios’ decision to replace his villain Doctor Doom with Robert Downey Jr. What do you think? Can you blame him?
