Joe Budden announces he’s mocking Kendrick Lamar’s “7-minute workout” on J. Cole’s surprise “might be deleted later” mixtape Not impressed.
On the latest episode of The Joe Budden podcast, which aired on Saturday (April 6), the rapper-turned-podcaster shared his dissatisfaction with the popular freestyle.
“The tone,” he said of the song’s main problem. “That’s my problem with this narcolepsy-sounding shit. It sounds like… if I were actively looking for police fentanyl, this is what I would use. I want to hear he’s still alive sound.”

While many rappers seem to be taking sides in the controversy between J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar, Russ is one rapper who has stayed away from the controversy.
On Friday (April 5), a fan asked “Are you picking a side?” — a nod to Metro Boomin’s now-famous message, “Once you pick a side, stay there…”, in When it came to the dispute – the “What They Want” rapper jumped at the chance to inject some humor into the situation.
“I’m 31,” he replied on X (formerly Twitter). The answer drew mixed reactions from fans, with some agreeing and others questioning the relevance of Lars’ age in expressing loyalty.
“Haha, great answer,” one fan wrote. “That’s a great answer, as if I’m too old for this. Oops! Cheers to your new age [birthday emoji],” read a second comment.
“And? I’m 48 years old and firmly supporting Team Kendrick,” another netizen wrote.
On the mixtape’s closing track, “7 Minute Drill,” Cole appears to address K. Dot’s recent taunts toward him and Drake and fires back with some harsh bars of his own.
Addressing the perceived quality of his friend-turned-foe catalog, he raps: “Your first shit is a classic, your last shit is a tragedy/Your second shit puts n-ggas to sleep, but they use Gassed it/Your third shit was huge, that was your peak/I followed it, I just hit mine.”
He continues: “Now I’m in front of the pack, with a comfortable lead/How ironic, as soon as I got the lead, now he wants to do something with me/Well, he caught me at the perfect time , jump up and take a look.”
Paying homage to JAY-Z’s “Takeover” track targeting Nas, Cole hinted that the Illmatic MC wouldn’t be relevant if he didn’t piss off Hov. He then compared his feud with Kendrick to a scene in “New Jack City” in which one of the characters, Nino, reluctantly kills his brother.
Cole expressed conflicting feelings about Kendrick, admitting he was reluctant to get involved in the conflict but insisting he was prepared to jump on the mic to defend his title if necessary. Cole ended with a warning to other rappers and a teaser for his upcoming album, The Fall Off.
“7 Minute Drill” comes just two weeks after Kendrick Lamar took aim at J. Cole and Drake on a guest track on “Future” and on their collaborative album “We Don’t Trust You.” “Like That” by Metro Boomin.
Referring to the duo’s chart-topping single “First Person Shooter,” he raps: “Fuck, stealth despise, first person shooter, I wish they had three switches/I broke down, ‘Fuck rap,’ if I must.”
