Jimmy Kimmel took aim at the former president Thursday night after Donald Trump once again called on ABC to cancel Jimmy Kimmel Live. In a post on Truth Social, the host was called a “talentless person” and blamed for his “terribly poor” ratings.
“I honestly can’t tell you how many times the president has asked me to get off the air,” Kimmel said in his opening monologue. “Speaking of snowflakes, this guy, every five weeks, gets angry and wants to fire me. You’ve done this before. You tried to get me fired in September. It didn’t work. Mr. President — I admire your tenacity.”
Trump’s latest post came just 11 minutes after the episode aired on the East Coast on Wednesday, prompting Kimmel to suggest Trump may have been watching the live broadcast.
“If you’re watching tonight – and I assume you are – how about this: when you go, I’ll go too. We’ll be a team. Let’s ride off into the sunset together – like Butch Cassidy and the Tan Kid. Until then – let me borrow a phrase of yours… Be quiet, Piggy!”
“Quiet, little piggy,” Trump said to a female reporter who asked about Jeffrey Epstein’s documents earlier this week. He has since agreed to release the documents.
Kimmel also addressed Trump’s repeated attacks on his approval ratings.
“He keeps saying our ratings are bad. You should listen to him — because if anyone knows the ratings are bad — it’s that guy!” he said, editing a news clip reporting that Trump’s approval rating was 38 percent, the lowest approval rating of his second term.
Back in September, Kimmel briefly left television after telling a controversial joke about the assassination of Trump supporter and right-wing figure Charlie Kirk. He returned to the show the following week.
