Jim Jones admits he overlooked three future superstars (Drake, J. Cole and The Weeknd) who had the chance to sign each artist but passed away for a variety of reasons.

Jones opens up opportunities about missing out when talking about “the art of dialogue,” which may have changed his executive legacy.

In 2009, he was named vice president of Urban A&R at Koch Records, a powerful country in independent music record company Space. The character gave him the power to scout and sign new talents, and he put all J. Cole and Drake on his track before the explosion.

“J. Cole used to be in my studio all the time. I could say it with all my heart and then Drake, Alan Grunblatt [Koch VP] Let me listen to some of his music. But I kept telling him [Grunblatt] he [Drake] No image. I don’t understand, it’s not connected, but he can speak his butt. Jim Jones revealed.

As for the weekend, Jones said a personal tragedy shrouded what would have been a major business move. He explained that he flew to Canada to meet with the Toronto singer, but the timing was worse.

His close friend and rapper stack bundle was shot to death that day. Jones said he wasn’t in the right psychological space to make decisions.

Before anyone considers his story as a history of revisionism, it is worth noting that Jones is in a legal position to sign all three artists. As an executive at Koch, he has the authority and platform to join them.

His own success on the label (through my way to church and Hostler’s plaster) albums have enhanced Koch’s position in the industry. Despite this, Jones said he wouldn’t introduce what could have been.

Jim Jones said: “Will it be good? Yes, that could be a stimulant. But who knows, they may not have the success they have from the work they put in, if that would go through the channels I have to provide.”
