Jermaine Dupri and his So Def recording tag have announced a partnership with Hybe America.
The partnership marks a fully fulfilling moment for Hybe America CEO Scooter Braun, who started his career under the guidance of So Def’s Dupri. The deal allows “access to Hybe America’s complete distribution and marketing infrastructure, giving labels to reintroduce its strong catalog and launching new artists with modern global coverage, such as DVSN and more.”
“Everything I learned about the music business from Jermaine,” Braun said. “When I was a dream kid, he gave me my first picture. I was lucky enough to witness the genius, and now, a few years later, it’s an honor to be back to the beginning of everything and stand by his partner.”
“It’s not just a business move – it’s a family,” said Jermaine Dupri. “I’m very proud to watch the scooter build his build. He learned the game so defensively inside, and now he can open the door like the way I once opened it for him. That’s what legacy means.”
Jermaine Dupri has been known to help shape the sounds of the 90s and early 2000s through its iconic work, supporting Usher, Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson, Nelly, Bow Wow, Da Brot, Da Brat, Jagged Edge, Xscape, and more recently, Grammy®-®-Winning Viral Sensation Muni Long.
Scooter is a 19-year-old club promoter and marketing executive who works at Dupri and learns the ins and outs of the music industry.
“Jermaine Dupri is not only a legend, but one of the greatest producers and executives of all time,” Braun added. “He changed the voice of a generation. The deal was to give him modern tools and reach his legacy and make sure the next generation hears the last thing that already knows: Jermaine Dupri is a giant.”
