JAY-Z’s Roc Nation has announced that they will once again give back to the community, and this time, they will be helping disadvantaged students in the greater Philadelphia area.
According to Billboard, on Friday (June 7), the company announced the launch of a $300 million scholarship fund aimed at helping disadvantaged students in grades K-12 attend prestigious private schools in the area.
Roc Nation plans several events from June 10-21 to raise awareness about the scholarship fund.
“We have such a special connection with Philadelphians, so our mission is to invest in the long-term success of the city’s changemakers,” Dania Diaz, managing director of philanthropy at Roc Nation, said in a statement to the media.
“Impact starts with students and awareness,” she continued. “We want to equip young people and families with the knowledge to achieve their academic dreams, allow their voices to be heard and become the leaders of tomorrow.”
In recent years, JAY-Z has become more famous for his philanthropy than his music, and other rappers like Ja Rule have also gotten involved.
Last month, the former Murder Inc. rapper teamed up with Hova’s REFORM Alliance to host a Mother’s Day lunch for a group of moms who are also ex-convicts.
The former Murder Inc. rapper also teamed up with Sei Less Restaurant co-founder Ivi Shano and The Ladies of Hope Ministries to host a luncheon in New York City on May 7.
Ja hosted 40 formerly incarcerated mothers and their children to hear their stories of how they have been impacted by the criminal justice system, while sharing some of her own prison experiences.
Video from the event shows the Queens, New York, native hugging a number of women and posing for photos.
Ja Rule also recently opened up about an expectant mother, his longtime friend and collaborator Ashanti, who is giving birth to her baby with Nelly.
When asked on the Tamron Hall show if he was surprised that the power couple had rekindled their romance after splitting more than a decade ago, he said: “Not really. So her and my wife, they would have it haha Kiki show, right? So sometimes you can tell when women want to go back to the old stuff.
“I don’t want to blow up my sister!” he added after the crowd erupted. “But the chemistry was there. I think for both of them, things came back very quickly. I think they missed each other. The way they clicked came back very quickly.
