Jamie Foxx Said the first moments after waking up from the medical emergency were so surreal that he thought he was being pranked.
The Academy Award-winning actor spoke about his life-changing experience on “The Graham Norton Show.”
Fox, 55, revealed that after suffering a stroke while filming in Atlanta in April 2023, he emerged from a 20-day coma with no memory of his ordeal.
“I don’t remember anything happening, so when I woke up 20 days later I thought I’d been pranked,” Fox told host Graham Norton. “This is crazy.”
The actor, known for his roles in “Thunder” and “Django Unchained,” said humor became an important part of his recovery.
“I knew I had to come back and realized the way to do that was to be fun,” he shared. Jamie Foxx even joked that his impersonations of other Hollywood icons keep him going.
“I tell a lot of jokes and people think I’m crazy, and then I play someone else – for three days, I’m Denzel Washington!” said Jamie Foxx.
Fox first revealed details of his health scare in 2023 on the Netflix special Jamie Foxx: What Happened… , explaining that he suffered a stroke that resulted in a brain bleed.
Speaking about the ordeal, he reflected on how close he came to losing everything.
“It makes you realize that you need people around you who care and love you to help you get through it,” he said.
A year and a half after his medical crisis, Fox assured fans that he is on the mend and feeling normal again.
“I was very uncomfortable, but now I feel fine,” he said in the interview.
Fox, who is currently promoting his latest action comedy film “Back in Action” opposite Cameron Diaz, appeared upbeat and grateful for what he said was a second chance in life.
The highly anticipated film marks Diaz’s return to acting after an eight-year hiatus, and Fox’s signature energy in the promotional campaign suggests he’s ready to return to the spotlight.
