A man who was reportedly convicted of killing hip-hop idol jam master Jay was stabbed to the notorious Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn.
NY Daily News reported on Tuesday (February 25) that Karl Jordan Jr.
A source told the media that a fight broke out between rival gangs and the 41-year-old survived but was taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries.
A spokesman for the Prison Bureau confirmed that the two inmates were injured in a fight involving “multiple incarcerated people” but did not specify whether Jordan was involved.
In January 2024, Karl Jordan Jr. and Ronald Washington were convicted of the 2002 murder of the DMC legend.
Jordan is Mizel’s Goldson, and Washington is a childhood friend. The two were arrested in 2020, nearly 18 years after the murder.
Jam Master Jay was shot dead in Queens studio on October 30, 2002. Prosecutors argued that Jordan and Washington killed Jay over the cocaine deal.
Witnesses testified that Jordan fired while guarding the gate in Washington.
Tony Rincon, the second shooting victim, testified that Jordan “walked straight to Jay, kind of letting him shake hands while giving him half of it.” At that time he said he heard a few shots and saw Jay Yi fell to the ground.
Jordan and Washington face 20 years of life in federal prisons. Washington is seeking to reverse his conviction or retrial. The third suspect, Jay Bryant, was indicted in 2023 and will face a separate trial.
Prosecutors said Kobe “has been involved, but he is not a killer.” He was charged in 2023 for alleged role in promoting murders, by helping Jordan and Washington enter the studio through escape.
MDC Brooklyn is home to high-profile prisoners such as hip-hop tycoon Hip-Hop Mogul Diddy, and CEO Killer Luigi Mangione is said to have been due to its poor conditions and ongoing Known for existing problems.
The widespread violence, pathetic living conditions and complaints of severe staff shortages are common. The facility has had several prisoners killed, including fatal stabbing and suicide, leading to its infamous status.
