After a violent night in the ring that ended with surgery, Jake Paul is replacing his trademark bravado with bandages.
The social media star-turned-boxer confirmed on Saturday that he underwent surgery to repair a jaw injury sustained in his sixth-round loss to Anthony Joshua.
Paul shared the latest news directly with his followers, posting news of his recovery in a decidedly softer tone.
“Just had surgery. Everything went great. Thanks for all the love,” Paul wrote. “Lots of pain and stiffness. Had to eat liquids for seven days straight. [Shoutout] Thank you to the wonderful team at University of Miami Hospital. Everyone was so kind and caring. “

The losses are huge.
Paul shared X-rays showing two fractures to his jaw, sustained during a fight and quickly escalating as Joshua’s size and experience took control.
Paul vomited blood after the game and did not attend the post-game press conference.
In the ring, the end came quickly. Joshua knocked Paul down twice in the fifth round and twice more in the sixth round before the referee stopped the fight after eight rounds. The defeat marked one of the most painful nights in Paul’s short but high-profile boxing career.
At the post-fight press conference, Most Valuable Promotions CEO Nakisa Bidarian took matters into her own hands.
“He took a shower and drove to the hospital,” Bidarian said. “Jaw fractures are common in sports, especially boxing or mixed martial arts. Recovery time is four to six weeks.”
Paul insists the injury will not derail his ambitions. “We’re going to heal that injured chin and come back and fight guys my weight,” he said in the ring. “I’m going to fight for the lightweight world championship.”
The loss came after a risky weight jump that included a fight with Mike Tyson last year and a decision to fight Joshua despite a usual fighting weight of around 200 pounds.
For now, Paul says he plans to take a break before planning his next move, a necessary pause after being reminded that the consequences of boxing are very real.
