A series of charges against a married Indiana couple shocked the community after her husband and wife were charged with serious crimes involving minors.
According to a report by KHOU11, prosecutors claimed that former school teacher Brittany Fortinberry had sex with multiple teenage boys. Additionally, her husband, Nicholas Fortinberry, was accused of not only realizing the abuse, but also threatening the silence of the victim. Court documents depict painful pictures of what Brittany calls action.
She was accused of sexual abuse by at least ten students while working at the Morgan County school. According to investigators, she provided drugs to middle school boys and coerced them to have sexual encounters. One victim narrates that when he was 13 years old, Brittany repeatedly drugs and assaulted.
One of the boys said in a particularly weird statement that Brittany would put his children in bed before encountering them with a teenager. Another victim claimed that after being arrested in another misconduct investigation, Brittany reached out to him and spent $600 on various purchases on a group of teenagers before having group sex with them. Shockingly, she reportedly had the boys wear masks from the horror movie “Scream” in these actions, allegedly threatening to commit suicide if they reported her.
Other allegations detail the patterns of predatory behavior. Brittany allegedly paid clear photos to teenage boys between teenagers and $800, sending nude photos and videos through Snapchat and another app called “Session.” She was also accused of forcing the boy to take sexual behavior despite their resistance, reportedly “just let it happen.” One victim claimed Brittany exploited a teenager who was asked to take care of the child, coerced him to establish a sexual relationship and exchanged other teenagers with material goods for sex.
Despite Brittany’s alleged crimes terrorized by itself, prosecutors said her husband, Nicholas, also played a disturbing role in achieving abuse. Investigators claimed Nicholas knew what his wife was doing and took extreme measures to keep the victims silent. One victim is a 13-year-old boy who tells the story of Nicholas’ direct threat to him.
“If you don’t stop doing things with my wife, I’ll kill you in front of your family,” an investigator said in court documents. “Don’t continue doing things with my wife until you’re 16.”
Authorities believe Nicholas was aware of his wife’s actions but failed to report them, resulting in intimidation and unreported charges. Despite the seriousness of the charges, he was released on a bond of $600.
The enormous magnitude of the alleged crimes in Brittany prompted prosecutors to make an extensive list of charges. In addition to previous charges, she now faces ten counts of harassing a child, eight counts of substance transmission harmful to a minor, five counts of crimes caused by a minor, and one count of sexual misconduct with a minor.
As more and more victim parents come forward, law enforcement has discovered more shocking details. The Department of Children’s Services launched an investigation that led to the discovery of many other victims who remained silent, highlighting the astonishing scale of what Brittany calls plunder.
The local school district in which Brittany was previously hired has released statements about the evolving scandal. The Metropolitan School District in Martinsville confirmed that Brittany started as a substitute teacher since October 2023 until she resigned in January 2024, stressing that there were no reports during her tenure. Eminence Community School, which Brittany briefly served as a middle school math teacher, revealed that they were charged on August 22, 2024 and immediately reported the matter to authorities. Brittany was suspended that night and her job was officially terminated the next morning after she submitted her resignation.
Experts warn that while cases of sexual abuse involving authoritative figures are not uncommon, cases involving male victims are often not reported. Kristina Korobov, a senior attorney for the Zero Abuse Project, stressed the need to take such allegations seriously, noting: “These children have no sexual desire for the situation of these children. It is a violation, it is an exploitation.”
