Young Chop has been behind bars for a while, and while we’re sure there will be plenty of conflict in there, this is the first time we know publicly. Additionally, new body camera footage leaked online from April 10, appearing to show him fighting with another inmate in his cell. The Chicago drill producer apparently punched his cellmate from behind before they got into a one-on-one scuffle that the officer involved tried to break up. It’s unclear what prompted this or whether it was part of a larger issue or an argument, but either way, it doesn’t look like he was able to successfully sneak up on his co-worker.
Additionally, Young Chop has unfortunately encountered many difficulties and obstacles so far in the 2020s. For one, he has to factor in jail time, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, and is behind bars on multiple charges including probation violation and animal cruelty. Another reason is that Chopp may have had tensions with others in the city after he tragically lost his brother, Johnny May Cash, to the violence. Hopefully this documented fight is just a one-time incident that he doesn’t have to deal with while he recovers from other situations.

However, hopefully there will be brighter days ahead for Young Chop, who will still be able to occasionally put out new music while in prison. For example, he released the mixtape Under Surveillance in 2021, where he addressed some of these issues on the back of singles and hit collaborations. While there has been radio silence since then, attention has understandably focused more on his physical and criminal disabilities. After all, things seem much bigger than any artist can fix or mitigate.
In the meantime, we wonder if Young Chop’s animosity toward Kanye West still exists, or if prison has changed his assessment. Regardless, he does have some very interesting perspectives on the world and how it has changed since his legal problems began. Perhaps that’s what sparked the prison battle in the first place. We may never know for sure, but hopefully his eventual freedom will reveal this new mindset.
