Ice Spice shared a story about her time on Drake’s plane and revealed that the gesture didn’t mean they were “besties.”
In a Rolling Stone profile out Thursday (July 25), Ice talks about her relationship with Drizzy, among other topics.
She began: “We were on the plane and were like, ‘Wait, Derek is taking us out? Like, gag. When we saw him, I was like, ‘No, this is crazy.’ He Just randomly out there surrounded by crazy random people and he just fit in somehow.
The “Princess Diana” rapper also said she hopes to work with Drake at some point in the future, before revealing the nature of their relationship: “We’ve talked but we’ve never really talked about some besties relationship. He told me he was excited about the millennium!
She also reflected on the conflict between The 6 God and Kendrick Lamar. Refusing to take sides, she said: “I’m a music lover. So, I appreciate the sport – I think it’s really cool.
Part of the reason Bing Spice and Drake may never be good friends is because of subliminal shots from the past.
Back in February 2023, Drake unfollowed and then re-followed the “Munch” rapper on Instagram after they first met in Toronto.
Drake and Ice Spice first linked up in August 2022, after the 24-year-old caught his attention with her breakout hit “Munch (Feelin’ U)” and a jam session on On the Radar Radio. This led to Drizzy flying her to Toronto for his OVO Fest, where fans snapped photos of Ice in the crowd.
Recalling her unexpected encounter with Drake, she told Spotify’s RapCaviar at the time: “It was so cool to connect with him. Like, he was so nice and polite. We went to OVO Festival. It was exciting because it was Like the first time he performed in Toronto, I think it was like a couple years later, so it was just a movie and everybody was excited.
However, he seemed to express his displeasure with her on “BackOutsideBoyz,” a collaboration with 21 Savage from her Her Loss album.
“She a 10 tryna rap, it’s good on mute,” Drake raps on the song, which drew a response from Ice on Twitter when it was released in November. “At least ima 10 [shrugging emoji] [laughing with tears emoji],” she tweeted.
But months later, when Ice Spice was asked about it in an interview with The New York Times, she denied any suggestion of a rift. “We’re cool,” she said. “We chatted several times after that and had a good relationship. There was no beef.
