Ice Spice has revealed a little about her relationship with “Barbie World” collaborator Nicki Minaj, and the news is…mixed.
The Bronx rapper spilled the beans in a conversation with Rolling Stone published on Thursday (July 25).
“We don’t have the closest relationship, you know? But we’re definitely fine,” she told RS. “We are mutual. We broke records together. I love us together. I think the world does too.
Ace also elaborated on her leaked text messages from months ago, in which she expressed frustration to Minaj about the business details of their “Barbie World” collaboration.
“I really don’t think she cares about the shit a random girl puts out,” the “Monk” rapper said of Minaj. “But the words I said in these texts were only in the moment of frustrated contract negotiations. I could have chosen different words. But in the end, no matter how I felt in that moment, [Nicki] She is still someone I look up to as an artist and I always admire what she has done for me and the culture.
The text messages first surfaced on May 3, when Baby Storme — herself an aspiring singer and rapper — posted messages purportedly between her and the Bronx native Screenshot of a conversation between people. Ice Spice seemed to confirm the legitimacy of the news by responding to Rolling Stone’s questions about the news.
In the screenshot, a woman whom Baby Storm calls Ice Spice says Minaj is “just like her mom, ungrateful and delusional.” Ice Spice also allegedly said that the Barbie soundtrack project was originally brought to her, and then she approached Minaj to work with her because “that’s her brand.”
In the second post, Ice Spice also claimed that the “Starships” rapper was “jealous” of her “because I have my own master.”
This is Baby Storm’s second attempt at something approaching Ice Spice. Previously, she further “exposed” her former friend on X (formerly Twitter) on April 27.
As well as screenshots of images and text, she also promised to expose the 24-year-old as a fake friend and a bad person.
“This is Cleo,” she wrote on a photo of Ace and a girl named Cleopatra. “She chose this girl to be her ‘public best friend.'” Actually, it was me behind the scenes.
“Cleo and she weren’t really best friends. Isis had always hated Cleo. But she used her so she could seem “closer to the darkness.” She also lied about being Nigerian. She stole this from me.
