This is Queens, New York emcee Heems’ third full-length solo record. He rose to prominence in 2008 as one-third of the alternative hip-hop group Das Racist, releasing several mixtapes, Nehru Jackets & Wild Water Kingdom, and his first full-length album, Eat Pray Thug, after the group’s disbandment in 2012. Mass Appeal Records imprinted Veena Sounds and teamed up with the new label’s in-house producer Lapgan to release critically acclaimed sophomore effort Lafandar and now looks to collaborate with Veena on back-to-back collaborations.

Following the title intro, first track “Ratatouille” is a colorful sizzling opener about feeling more confident than ever, while “Manto” featuring Vijay Iyer features more kick drums and snare drum playing, bringing the jazz influence all the way up, treating the song as if this were his calling. “Bourdain” starring Mr. Cheeks talks instrumentally about staying alert in a basement, while “Underbelly” skit follows Ajji & Pavvan The starrer Rakhi dabbles in drills and is a bit boastful.
