Diddy’s honorary degree from Howard University was withdrawn due to 2016 surveillance video showing Puff assaulting his then-girlfriend Cassie Ventura at a hotel.
Didi’s Howard University honorary degree revoked
On Friday (June 7), the school’s school newspaper “The Hilltop” reported that Howard University in Washington, D.C., had voted to revoke Didi’s honorary degree. They also said they have returned a $1 million donation from Puff to the school. The school board voted to terminate the 2023 commitment agreement, which Puff’s Sean Combs Foundation never actually fulfilled.
“Mr. Coombs’ actions are so fundamentally incompatible with Howard University’s core values and beliefs that he is no longer deemed worthy of receiving the institution’s highest honor,” the statement said.
Diddy received an honorary degree from Howard University in 2014.
The video is hotel surveillance video from 2016, in which Diddy can be seen beating and assaulting his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura. The video appeared online on May 17.

Diddy sells majority stake in REVOLT
Howard University’s decision comes as Diddy continues to experience widespread and dramatic fallout related to the multiple allegations of sexual and physical abuse made against him. In early June, Pugh sold a majority stake in REVOLT, the media company he founded in 2013, making employees the largest shareholder group. REVOLT announced that Diddy’s shares have been “fully redeemed and retired.”
The disgraced rap mogul resigned as chairman of the company in November following multiple lawsuits alleging rape, sexual assault and violence. REVOLT CEO Detavio Samuels praised employee ownership, praising them as “owners of the business they are helping to build.” With Didi gone, employees are now the company’s largest shareholder group.
