Diddy, a former Howard University student, will no longer hold an honorary degree from the prestigious HBCU.
The Howard University Board of Trustees voted to revoke the degree awarded to Sean Coombs after their regular meeting on June 7, 2024.
A spokesperson issued the following statement.
“The Howard University Board of Trustees voted unanimously today to accept the return of the honorary degree awarded to Mr. Sean Combs in 2014. This decision effectively revokes all associated honors and privileges. Accordingly, the Board of Trustees has directed that his name be removed from the list of Howard University honorary degree recipients. removed from all official documents.
As depicted in the recently released video, Mr. Coombs’ actions are in stark contrast to the fundamental values and beliefs to which Howard University upholds, making him unfit to retain the institution’s highest honor.
The University maintains a firm stance against all forms of interpersonal violence.
Additionally, the Board directed the Administration to immediately implement the following measures: terminate the 2016 gift agreement with Mr. Coombs, dissolve the scholarship program established in his name, return his $1 million donation, and rescind the agreement with Sean Coombs Basis of Mr.’s 2023 Pledge Agreement.
To date, the $1 million pledge has not been disbursed, so no funds need to be returned under the 2023 pledge agreement.
A spokesman for Howard University said the university would make no further statement on the matter.
