Young Thug brought State Farm Arena to a standstill on Tuesday night (December 16) when he paused his performance at a Hometown Heroes benefit show in Atlanta to get down on one knee and propose to scientist Maria.
The moment unfolded in front of a packed house as a giant LED screen behind the rapper lit up with the words “Will you marry me?”
Maria stood up, shocked and visibly emotional, then nodded in agreement as the crowd erupted in cheers. Confetti rained down as the couple embraced on stage, making the concert headline.
The proposal came during a celebration of Thug’s fourth solo album, UY Scuti, but the night quickly turned from music to marriage.
The couple’s relationship was anything but smooth, with breakups, reconciliations and public apologies.
In October, Thug confirmed during a live broadcast with Adin Ross that the two had broken up, saying Mariah “broke up with him.” Previously, jailhouse phone calls from his YSL RICO case were leaked and he admitted to talking to “10 girls” a day and being unfaithful.
Back in September, he publicly apologized to Mariah on social media after the cheating allegations surfaced online. He also addressed the fallout in his song “Man I Miss My Dogs,” in which he apologized to Mariah and Drake for the drama caused by the leaked phone call.
Speculation about the couple was reignited earlier this year when Thug called Mariah his “baby mama” in a birthday post, sparking rumors of a possible pregnancy.
Social media was abuzz after the proposal video went viral, with many praising the intimate and dramatic moment as a classic thug.
Mariah looked genuinely surprised, standing silently for a few seconds before accepting the ring as thousands of people watched and recorded.
