The news that Black Mafia family big shot Mickey was being released from prison to a halfway house sparked celebrations in the hip-hop community.
Big Mickey is released from prison
On Wednesday (October 16), news began circulating that former drug lord Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory was no longer listed in the federal Bureau of Prisons database Imprisonment list. TMZ later confirmed to FBP that the former drug lord has been released and will spend the remainder of his sentence in a halfway house in Miami. Meech’s release date is January 27, 2026.
Big Mickey and his brother Terry Lee “Southwestern T” Flenory were at the vanguard of a large drug trafficking organization called the Black Mafia Family, which operated from the 1980s to the mid-2000s. In the years before the band was sued in 2005, they moonlighted as a rap label, promoting the careers of artists like Jeezy and Bleu Davinci and courting the hip-hop community.
Members of the group were arrested in 2005 in a massive indictment in Atlanta. T was released from federal prison in 2020.
