J. Cole took back his beef with Kendrick Lamar during a speech during his 2024 Dreamville Festival performance, leaving fans wondering what was going on in Cole’s head. It looks like this could be the grand opening and grand closing of the J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar beef, which has hip-hop fans excited.

Cole unexpectedly denounced his new K-Dot diss song “7 Minute Drill” during a monologue during his Dreamville show held at Dorothea Dix Park in Raleigh, North Carolina on Sunday night (April 7). ”. Just three days after he released the song, which was a response to Kendrick’s lyrics on Future and Metro Boomin’s “Like That,” he suddenly changed his mind.

J. Cole delivers the “7-Minute Training” speech at the 2024 Dreamville Music Festival

“I am very proud [Might Delete Later] Except for one part,” Cole told the audience before performing his final song of the night at the festival. “There was a part of the song where I was like, ‘Man, this is the lamest song I’ve ever heard. Did it in my fucking life, right? I know that’s not what a lot of people want to hear. I can Hear my voice up there saying, ‘No, don’t do that.’ But I gotta stay close to you guys.”

He continued, “At the end of the day, when I heard it…I saw the speech, it was at odds with my spirit. It disrupted my life. Peace…and while I was doing it… …and try to find a little angle and downplay this n***a’s catalog and his greatness. I would say tonight right now, how many people consider Kendrick Lamar to be one of the greatest Mutafkas to ever touch a microphone? Dreamville, you all love Kendrick Lamar, right? Me too. “

He also said the track would be removed from streaming services soon.

J. Cole’s surprising transformation has sparked mixed reactions online. Reactions on X (formerly Twitter) ranged from people thinking it was a mature move now to people questioning whether Cole had lost his mind.

One tweet read: “This guy J Cole says he couldn’t sleep for two days and he saw Kendrick Lamar screaming like he did on U in his dream.”

“J. Cole will never recover from this, especially if Drake responds to Kendrick,” another tweeted. “I can’t believe Cole quit, man. SMH.”

“J. Cole praised Kendrick on stage and apologized for his comments. He wasn’t made for this. Cole didn’t like it,” someone else posted.

“J Cole, I love you,” another X user wrote. “There’s no coming back. Ancestors like the Nass you revered must be furious. What a disgrace to you.”

Others have even said J. Cole should be removed from the “Big Three,” and many rap fans believe his legacy has been tarnished by this move. The rappers themselves have remained silent on the matter, but some have weighed in.

Mick Jenkins was upset by Cole’s decision. “Come on, bro. Can’t you say no one can have sex with you and the only person they compare you to is constantly challenging you and expecting everyone to accept your reasons for quitting? I’m speaking as a human being and I respect It. But that’s where it stops, like…what???” He commented X.

Meek Mill also chimed in on Twitter. The Philly rapper thinks Cole and Kendrick should cash in on the drama.

“I’d rather Cole and Kendrick throw shots at the same album and then eat up this historic album…just words!” Meek tweeted. “They’re smart, it’s not going to be violent… why does everyone push beef but when you do it they say you’re crazy ‘house on fire’.”

Check out J. Cole’s reaction below, saying that despising Kendrick Lamar is the worst thing he’s ever done.
