Young master recalls the “Talk” meeting
Drake surprised fans on Tuesday (August 6) by releasing three new songs and 100GB of behind-the-scenes footage that hasn’t been released in years. In a video, Drake talks to his team about getting a Hov verse in 2018.
“The story behind this is crazy,” Guru begins below. “we are [On the Run 2 Tour]. Hough had to write a poem. We had a show that day. He actually wrote the poem after completing the full two-hour performance. I threw an after-party. Organizers had to wait in the stadium parking lot for two hours. I arrived at the club around 1am. Just in time for my show. That’s the simple story.
In a follow-up post, Guru shared more detailed instructions.
“Talk Up” is one of five times Jay-Z has blessed Drake’s career. Jigga’s lyrics recall his D-boy days on the song produced by DJ Paul and TWhy, which can be seen below.
“Yo, close enough to HOV, smells like a kilo of Still/First album at 26, I don’t need a deal,” Hov gushed. Already a hood legend, I don’t need Shyne (Woo) / First Rollie is drowned, I can’t see the time, wow / Stand-up comedy, we’re just ducking prosecution / Drug boys, off-white, look on ’em Looks like a soft white/Hey, you know what I’m saying? Brick, that’s what happened.
