Tory Lanez revealed that Trina provided him with financial support and housing during his early career struggles while sharing his story on the 10th anniversary of his Lost Cause mixtape.
The incarcerated lyricist shared a lengthy post on Instagram on Tuesday (October 1) about the personal turmoil he went through while creating the project. In addition to sharing that he became homeless while making his breakthrough mixtape, he also explained how rapper Trina played a key role in his success.
“Ten years ago, I was broke, sleeping in my girlfriend’s car and my manager’s couch trying to create a unique sound of my own,” Tory Lanez wrote in part. “I literally put my blood, sweat and tears into this project.”
Lanez, who was just starting out, told the story of how his then-girlfriend broke up with him, leaving him with no place to live. But Trina, known for her generosity and love of rookies, stepped in and offered a lifeline.
“I moved in with @trinarockstarr,” he wrote. “I remember I showed her the song from The Godfather. She looked at me and said, ‘This song will make you a fortune. “She set up five orchestras and helped me shoot the video.
Tory Lanez revealed that a $5,000 investment from Trina Solar helped him film The Godfather. Notably, the director involved in the project shot another segment for “Henny in Hand” for free. These visuals help attract the attention of major brands.
“Two months later, Interscope watched both videos and couldn’t believe it was the same person singing both songs,” he wrote. “That led to me being signed and the rest is history.”

Tory Lanez credits Lost Cause as the origin of his signature “Fargo” sound, which spawned hits like “Litty Again” and the “New Toronto” series. To mark the occasion, Lanez excitedly shared that now that he’s a solo artist, the mixtape will eventually be released on digital streaming platforms alongside other classics from his earlier catalog.
Lanez’s career has taken a dark turn in recent years. Last year, the rapper was sentenced to 10 years in prison after being convicted of the 2020 shooting death of artist Megan Thee Stallion. Although he achieved great musical success, it left a stain on his legacy. Lanez is currently serving his sentence while continuing to appeal his sentence.
