Gayle King used her national platform to set the record straight on CBS Mornings on Friday after an AI-generated photo falsely claimed she had just gotten married and flashed a diamond ring.
“I’ve been getting a lot of texts and messages and stories online saying I’m engaged,” Kim said on the air. “Look at this big ring on my finger. There’s a lucky guy – I don’t know who he is.”
The 70-year-old journalist spoke about the viral photo of her standing next to a mystery groom in a wedding dress, pointing to the growing trend of manipulated visuals that spread misinformation.
“These (artificial intelligence) generated images have been spread all over the internet. So here I am, exclusively on the CBS Morning Show, saying, I’m not married, I’m not even engaged.”

Kim, who is currently single, admits the images were so convincing that even her inner circle bought into the fantasy.
“People have been saying, ‘Congratulations,’ ‘Love really happened to you,’ ‘I’m so happy for you,'” she told co-host Nate Burleson. “That’s not me. But Nate, even I look at it and say, ‘Is that me?'”
King read one of the false reports and laughed at the description of her alleged husband, who was described as a “prominent figure in the business world” with a philanthropic spirit and a cautious public image.
“Where is he? I want to see you, sir! Show up!” she joked. “Even my kids say, ‘Mom, who is this?’ Well, I don’t know!”
She ended the moment by reiterating that fact: “I’m not married or engaged…trust me, if I were, you would be here to hear it first.”
Kim has two adult children with her ex-husband, William Bumpus. The two were married from 1982 to 1993.
