With the first day of summer here, some talented rappers are cooling off with their new projects. This week, a Brooklyn rapper returns with a new mixtape, a Bay Area rhymer releases his long-awaited album, an underground rap hero launches a film project, and more.
22Gz Releases Brooklyn’s Most Popular Mixtapes
Despite his legal troubles, 22Gz hasn’t stopped grinding in the rap game. Earlier this year, the Brooklyn drill leader released Growth & Development 2, the follow-up to his 2020 album.
Now, the 26-year-old rhymer is back with a new mixtape titled Brooklyn’s Most Wanted . The album contains 9 tracks, featuring 22Gz hardcore grooves that vividly depict the tumultuous reality of street life. The first single from the series is the chilling “Homicide,” which can be checked out below.

G-Eazy launches his Freak Show album
Rap fans haven’t heard new music from G-Eazy in three years. Since the release of his 2021 album These Things Happen Too (deluxe edition), the Oakland, Calif., native’s life has been changing.
First, G-Eazy was born Gerald Gillum and moved to New York City about 1.5 years ago. Before he made his big move, he had begun work on his seventh studio album, Freak Show. Living in New York has proven to be a fulfilling experience for the 35-year-old Rhyme.
“In Los Angeles, my house was in the (Hollywood) Hills, and I would be locked up in a room at the top of the house and order Postmates,” he told USA Today. “Whereas (in New York), you have to go out and mingle. I walk around SoHo, the Lower East Side, the East Village, and I always run into friends. That’s a good thing.”
During this time, G-Eazy also lost his mother, Suzanne Olmsted. The 36-year-old rhymer paid tribute to her on his project with the elegiac “Love You Forever.”
“Making this record was both the hardest and the biggest breakthrough because it was cathartic,” he recalled to the publication.
Freak Show’s first single and video is titled “Anxiety” and can be viewed below.

Your Old Drogue Drop Movie
Your old Droog is back with his new music project “Movies”. As the title of his project suggests, the New York wordsmith is delivering cinematic rhythms over booming beats.
The album contains 18 tracks, including guest appearances by Yasiin Bey, Method Man, Denzel Curry, and production by conductors Williams, Harry Fraud, Just Blaze, etc.
“I won’t reveal the plot, but this album means a lot to me,” Droog wrote in a May 2024 Instagram post. One day it came to the tome…”
“When I was a little kid, I used to sit around the living room with my parents, and whenever there was something in the movie that went against reality, they would just say ‘Kino,'” he continued. “When something is too good or too impossible… they just say. ‘Movie.'” This album is a movie.
Your Old Droog releases video for his rap ballad “I Think I Love Her.” In the video below, YOD is surrounded by a bevy of beautiful models and he gives a special shout-out to any beautiful woman who catches his eye.
