Future is being sued by a photographer who claims the rapper used a photo of the Dungeon Family home on Mixtape Pluto cover art without permission.
On October 2, Gary Gomez sued the Atlanta rapper in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. Gomez claimed that he took the original photo used on the mixtape cover in 2021 and registered it with the Copyright Registry in June of that year. This photo shows the exterior of the house originally owned by Future’s cousin Rico Wade’s mother, where the Dungeon Family recorded many of their early hits.
Gomez discovered that Future used a modified version of the photo on the cover of Mixtape Pluto, which was released on September 20, 2024, a month after the project was released. This photo is also used on merchandise sold by Future.
Gomez said he contacted Future about the matter in March and May of this year, but the two sides were unable to resolve the dispute, which eventually led to litigation. He asked for a jury trial and sought unspecified damages.
XXL has reached out to the Future team for comment.
The Dungeon Family home is located in Southwest Atlanta and was purchased in 2021 by Big Boi of OutKast. The home is currently for sale on Airbnb, where fans can book stays at the historic home where Organzied Noise, OutKast, Goodie Mob and other bands created Atlanta’s music in the early 1990s.
