It has been four years since Zion I’s enlightened, most talented MC was checked into the Alta Bates Hospital in Berkeley but never checked out. His death has remained suspicious since day one.
But Zumbi’s loved ones, peers and fans won’t let his legacy disappear, nor will he stop yelling at his death until it’s justified.
On Wednesday (August 13), Zumbi’s former partner held the annual “Zumbi” vigil at Clarion Alley in San Francisco Mission District. The giant portrait of Zumbi’s profile shrouded in the background: “Let your inner light shine. BabaZumbi forever. Zion I.”
As stated in the title, Zumbi’s death was not considered an “accident”.
“On August 13, 2021, Steve was murdered inside the Alta Bates Hospital.” “About four years later, there is no justice! We need the community, we need your support. Please share and be there!”
A few days after Zumbi’s death, Berkeley police began investigating him as a murder. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Zumbi allegedly had a physical dispute with several hospital employees while recovering from Covid-19.
Lieutenant Melanie Turner said police responded to a patient who had a physical dispute with nurses and security personnel at 5:16 a.m. local time, and he reportedly fixed him to the ground.
“Officers began seizing participants and determined that he needed immediate medical assistance,” Turner said after arriving. Police began taking lifesaving measures until Alta Bates staff were able to help, but “unfortunately, he was declared dead at the scene.”
But DJ’s real justice said that Zumbi’s physical dispute rang out.
“Steve is not a violent person; he never seeks violence; he never tolerate violence.” “But, I know that as a person, I know Steve has a very firm belief in him.”

The True Justice initially said that Zumbi was recovering from Covid-19 but suffered a huge asthma attack in the hospital and was unable to recover. Although Zumbi respects mask authorization, he has not “complied with mainstream media, especially about the current global pandemic” and “is not a fan of vaccination.”
The real justice also confirmed that Zumbi, at least 30 people tested positive for the virus after their last performance in Nevada, the foothills of the Sierra on July 24, 2021.

The Gaines released a statement to the Chronicle, which read: “We are in the depths of grief and a state of dealing with this loss. We are currently waiting for more details at the hospital so that we can understand exactly what is going on and determine what is next.”
In February 2022, Zumbi’s mother, Carolyn Gaines, begged the investigation to proceed and said no progress was made as police were awaiting the coroner’s report.
“I am committed to seeking justice for his killings,” she wrote in a statement. “My son did not die from Kuved. My son did not die from a heart attack. We are waiting for the Berkeley police to complete the murder investigation. They say their delay was caused by the failure to complete the coroner’s report. I beg the officials to complete their official duties.”

Carolyn Gaines begged Alta Bates Summit Medical Center and held accountable for the death of his son.
“I pray that the Alameda County District Attorney reviewed the evidence they will sue Alta Bates, Allied Universal and their employees for killing my beautiful son,” she wrote. “As the process evolves, we ask you to consider and understand.
“There will be time to take thoughtful, peaceful and considered actions. For now, we seek your respect, support and understanding when we are sad and seeking answers.”

In October 2022, Carolyn Gaines resolved the situation of her son’s case after Mercury News misrepresented a story claiming the investigation was closed.
“The criminal charges related to my son’s death have not been determined,” Gaines said. “I feel assured and confident that the case is not over and criminal charges are still possible. I am firmly convinced that the agency responsible for my son’s death will be held accountable.”
