FKA Twigs brings an unexpected sound to her latest album EUUSEXUA—North West, and she’s thanking Kanye West and Kim Kardashian for making it happen.
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the British singer-songwriter revealed that Ye played a key role in the relationship between her and his 12-year-old daughter, who sang a Japanese rap verse on the song “Childlike Things.”
“Honestly, in the beginning, Ye was actually set up with help from friends,” Twiggs said. “And then Kim was so helpful and sweet and helped make it all happen.”
Twigs said North West was encouraged during the project and showed a new side of himself while filming the music video.
“When we were on set, we were just rooting for North,” she said. “This is the first time in the video that I actually see her relax a little bit.”
The “Cellophane” artist praised North’s personality and presence, calling her “so cool” and “so down to earth.”
“She was very playful and sparkly, but I didn’t see that side of her,” Twiggs said. “At that age, from 10 to 15, to be encouraged to do something you love no matter who you are, it’s an incredible thing.”
Twigs said the collaboration had personal meaning, noting that she wrote “Childlike Things” when she was about the same age as North.
“It’s also weird because I also wrote this song when I was 12 or 13 years old,” she said. “It’s also weird because I also wrote this song when I was 12 or 13 years old.”
North West has already appeared on her father’s albums Vultures 1 and Vultures 2 and performed live, showing early signs of following in her parents’ creative footsteps.
EUSEXUA was launched earlier this year.
