Eve contrasts her charming hip-hop lifestyle with the wake-up call after the LA DUI arrest, and now she says she has changed her life.
The 46-year-old “Trolley” rapper and actress’s candid, crazy, sad and bad podcast opening to Paloma Faith reveals how the 2007 DUI incident turned into a powerful turning point in her personal journey.
Eve made headlines about two decades ago when she hit Los Angeles’ luxury Maserati and was subsequently accused of driving under influence.
But, according to the Grammy Award-winning artist, her personal rock moment ended up being a catalyst for positive change.
Eve reflects it frankly in the podcast, explaining how the legal impact she faces ultimately becomes a lifeline in a disturbing cycle.
As part of the punishment, she was asked to wear ankle monitors to track her temperature and sweat levels to detect alcohol consumption.
Although many may consider the limitation or embarrassment of this device, Eve attributes it to her regaining clarity and restoring her sanity.
“I had to wear a label,” Eve recalled frankly. “It can monitor your temperature and if you drink, you can tell from your sweat. The anklets make me sane again because I don’t remember one time I didn’t drink.”
The rapper further reveals the complexities that led to the accident, acknowledging that alcohol is not the only problem that works.
Eve said she is also taking Xanax pills and dietary medications to numb the emotional pain and keep the music video thin.
This dangerous material cocktail contributed a lot to the state behind her steering wheel.
“I had a car accident because I drank. But I also brought Xanax to the drinking.” Eve admitted publicly. “I tried to be numb. I also tried to make the video thin. So when I got the DUI, I wasn’t that drunk and I was taking weight loss pills.”
Eve has found stability and happiness in her personal life since the difficult chapter.
Married to Maximillion Cooper, the entrepreneur behind the famous Gumball 3000 Rally since 2014, she lags her past struggles far behind.
“It’s been a bad time, and that’s why I said little ankle definitely helped me,” Eve said.
