Eric Bellinger returns with the third installment of his Rebirth series, and his Rebirth 3: Party & Bedroom sets the mood for socializing and more intimate settings, in his long-preserved The impressive concentration of beats creates a strong, passionate song. as 10 years.
The album starts off in an impressive way. “All For Me” feels like a retro drum machine-style production song, but Bellinger breathes new life into it in a way that sounds fresh and modern. The end result feels like a cinematic experience in song form. Mozzy’s “Gang Slide” follows and completely changes the flow with a vibrant West Coast-style backing (courtesy of Hitmaka), with Bellinger’s catchy hook and Mozzy’s stellar verses inducing instant head-bobbing.
The album’s features are one of the project’s biggest strengths, as Bellinger chose to work with artists he had a real connection to, resulting in a more organic, natural feel. “The Party” ends with the Ty Dolla $ign-assisted “Writer’s Block,” one of the best songs on the 24-song double album.
Serving as a perfect transition point into the second half, which slows down thematically, Bellinger serenades his lover as he is the source of inspiration: “If I wrote about you, I would never have met Writer’s block/Too many words in the world, too many words in the world/If I were writing about you, you’d be the perfect muse.”
The “bedroom” portion of Reborn 3 continues along the same slow-paced and intimate path. Bellinger gave his heart and soul without shying away, and it paid off. While it does have a long running time to try and get through in one listen, both sides of the album complement each other well, with one half offering more social songs that can be played in the context of a summer picnic in Los Angeles, and the other better suited to alone or with a special people for intimate listening.
If anyone has any doubts about the current state of pop R&B, which leans more toward toxic tropes than the grand romance of old-school R&B, a listen to Eric Bellinger’s The Rebirth 3: The Party & The Bedroom might It’s enough to get you back on your feet. That classic feel.
