Drake’s legal team has responded to a recent rebuttal of the recent Universal Music Group’s recent rebuttal of Kendrick Lamar’s “Don’t Like Us”.
On April 16, the legal team of Toronto rappers filed a 107-page complaint against Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl and Grammy performances. According to the latest complaint filed in a New York court, Drake’s legal team believes that Lamar showed “not like us” in the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show – presenting to 133 million viewers – planned the “assassination” [Drake’s] Features. ”
One key raised in the complaint is based on the theoretical proof of the NFL’s theory of removing the term “pedophile” from TV shows, both the Alliance and UMG acknowledge the slanderous nature of lyric poetry.

In UMG’s response to the complaint, the company appears to have warned about the possible consequences of Drake’s actions, while also suggesting that his legal counsel misled him.
“There is no doubt that Drake is one of the most accomplished artists in the world, and we enjoy a 16-year successful relationship with them, and his legal representative misled his legal representative and took another ridiculous legal step,” the company said in a statement. “The lawsuits in Texas and New York are both insults to all artists and creative expressions. If his legal representative unconsciously keeps the New York lawsuit alive, we will prove that all the rest of the claims have no advantage.”
A statement obtained by Drake spokesman Allhiphop in his response refuted UMG, confirming that Drizzy and his legal team were fully aware of their face-to-face.
“UMG’s latest statement is a desperate effort to spin the narrative and deviate from the facts: Drake owns the world’s largest music group responsible for its actions, and has no fear,” the statement reads in part.
As the statement continued, the spokesperson not only suggested that “UMG knew that opposing it would only become stronger” but also pointed out that Drake himself had nothing to hide while also putting pressure on executives, CEO Lucian Grainge.
“Drake welcomes discovery and nothing to hide,” the statement said. “It’s not that Drake should worry; it’s UMG’s current leadership. We look forward to hearing letters from Lucian Grainge, John Janick and UMG’s sworn employees.”
“Drake joins the chorus of a growing number of artists, raising questions about UMG’s leadership. The public and artists should be concerned about recent headlines involving UMG’s biggest stakeholders, which will only strengthen the need for transparency to the board level,” the statement added.
The statement concluded in a dramatic way: “Umg said, ‘Beware of your demands,’ Drake knew exactly what he demanded: the truth and accountability.”
Before Drake’s team gave a detailed response to UMG, Kanye West fully supported Drizzy’s lawsuit against the brand, calling it “the biggest win in music history” while urging rap artists to stop targeting each other and focusing on power players in the industry.
