Snippets of two new songs from Drake were leaked last night, shortly before the release of J. Cole’s The Fall-Off album.
DJ Akademiks went live on Thursday night (February 5) and cleverly played multiple snippets of unreleased Drizzy songs.
“When I say ‘free the slime,’ I’m not saying that, I’m really…” Drake raps before Ak cuts off the audio.
Ak hinted he knew the release date for Drake’s Iceman album before playing another longer clip. Aubrey sings great songs in this song.
“You know what? Don’t tell me I’m not the greatest/The ones you call great are just understating it,” Drake gushed. “Fuck the haters, the double agents/Even my label, gave them 15 years of their souls…”
After previewing Drake’s new track, Ak addressed speculation that he performed the songs at Drake’s request in order to steal the spotlight from Cole’s release.
“That’s the truth,” Acker said. “I made that call. I had this clip for about four days. How I got it, I won’t mention. But, I said, hey, I’m not going to play it. Come tonight. It’s a hip-hop night…I thought, I’m going to play this clip and really kind of start some conversation.”
J. Cole’s long-awaited The Fall-Off album was released at midnight. The 24-track record features guest appearances from Future, Tems, Burna Boy and more. Drake has been teasing his Iceman album for the past year. He has yet to reveal a release date.
