On June 30, 2025, after a hearing in court on the Drake-U.S. law battle, Drake’s legal team decided to attend the federal judge in Manhattan. Attorneys urged the court to move forward and continue to engage in a libel case against Universal Media Group, which was filed after the popular Drake-Kendrick Diss battle.
In the initial hearing itself, questions were raised about the nature of the lyrics: whether it was a slander or an extreme “trash talk.”
After the trial, a Drake spokesman issued the following statement:
“UMG is desperate to see the case not moving forward because the company cannot cover up its misconduct in court as it does on the board. Soon, besides facing the regulators and investors of concern, the leadership of the music’s most powerful label can answer the damage done to each person, which is for every artist deprived, exploited, exploited, endangered or discarded.”
UMG has maintained its position throughout the entire fiasco, and they believe Drake is pursuing the case not because he feels wronged on the professional front, but because he loses the rap battle to another artist. UMG also maintained the stance that Drake often used the language he tried to criticize.
Of course, Drake’s team will deny it – as the statement just released shows. Please stay tuned for more updates to this case.
