Drake has withdrawn his lawsuit against Universal Music Group and Spotify in New York Supreme Court.
Drake drops lawsuit against Universal Music Group
On Tuesday (January 14), Drake’s attorneys filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit against the music giants, whom he accused in a pre-suit petition filed in November of conspiring to artificially inflate Kendrick Raider’s performance. Kendrick Lamar’s diss song “Not Like Us”.
“The petitioners hereby voluntarily terminate the special proceedings against all defendants at no cost to either party,” reads the document obtained by XXL on Wednesday (January 15). “On January 14, 2025, the petitioners filed an application with The defendants met and negotiated. The defendant, Spotify, has objected to the “show cause order” and responded that Spotify has no objection to the revocation and suspension. The defendant UMG has not objected to the “show cause order” and has reserved its position. .

Texas case still pending
Drake filed a second pre-suit petition against UMG and iHeartRadio in Houston, but it is still pending. In the motion, filed in November, Drake accused Universal Music Group of defaming him by spreading Kendrick’s song “Not Like Us,” which branded him a child predator. The petition also claims that UMG and IHR were involved in an illegal pay-to-play scheme involving the track. The case has been postponed several times but is currently scheduled to go to trial on January 28.
Meanwhile, Drake doesn’t seem fazed by the sudden plot twist. After announcing he was withdrawing the lawsuit, the rapper shared two selfies on Instagram.
