What a beautiful Saturday morning (April 5): the birds are chirping, the sun is shining, and the world is reacting to a trading blow that has left both dealers reeling from the aftershocks. Plus, you may have heard Drake and Kendrick Lamar take shots at each other on multiple Fridays: on “Family Matters,” “6:16 in L.A.,” and “Meet the Grahams,” respectively various parts. On the final track, K.Dot claims that 6ix God is hiding an 11-year-old daughter and possibly even more children. Unsurprisingly, he was quick to respond to the accusation, and it’s clear he doesn’t care at the moment.
“Wait, can someone find my hidden daughter? Please send her to me… These guys are in chaos,” Drake wrote on his IG Story, surrounded by a variety of dumbfounding emojis. As a result, he believes Kendrick Lamar is bluffing, and some online fan theorists have even suggested that he hands these alleged false information to a suspected “mole” in his camp to lure his opponent into making false claims. But other fans were more worried about Drizzy’s failure to address the sex trafficking, predator and assault allegations that were also at the center of “Meet the Grahams.” However, this is in stark contrast to the Toronto host’s accusations of domestic violence against the Compton rapper.

So there’s a lot of responsibility for both artists, and while some have chosen sides, most of us are left in silence and disbelief at what’s going on. Never mind the rap beef: This exchange is a terrifying reminder to never meet your heroes, and regardless of the final outcome, it calls into question a lot of perceived hypocrisy, loyalties, strategies, and methods. Kendrick Lamar and Drake might be able to avoid it all… but at what cost? How much history should we be prepared to face before realizing that there is a greater adversary to eliminate either way?
Maybe it’s just gorgeous self-righteousness. After all, Drake and Kendrick Lamar have been teasing the nuclear option for years, and we’ve been cheering them on. Perhaps the most glaring thing about these denials and reversals is that the world really needs to see some receipts now. It’s one thing for Rick Ross to relate his crash landing to this, but this is “another level” entirely. Only time will tell how these diss songs (as brilliant and harsh as they are) will go down in history.
