Dr. Dre has reportedly reached billionaire status.

On Tuesday (March 10), “Forbes” released the latest ranking of the world’s richest people. The legendary producer, a first-time inductee, has a net worth of $1 billion, much of which comes from music and his headphone empire. Dre is currently the 3,332nd richest person in the world, tied with Beyoncé. The new ranking makes Dr. Dre the second-richest hip-hop artist (behind Jay-Z) and only sixth on the list.

Jay-Z officially became hip-hop’s first billionaire in 2019, and Hov has pushed his net worth to $2.8 billion through investments in companies such as D’Ussé Cognac, Armand de Brignac (Spade Champagne), Tidal, and Roc Nation.

Dre officially entered the Forbes list 12 years after he declared himself hip-hop’s first billionaire during the 2014 sale of his company Beats Electronics to Apple Music for $3 billion. When it was all finalized, Dre reportedly received around $500 million from the sale, making him the richest hip-hop artist at the time, but still far from billionaire status.

In 2022, Dre’s net worth dropped to $400 million. The following year, he reportedly sold some of his music assets to Clover Holdings and Universal Music Group for an asking price of $250 million, which included “his two solo albums and his share of NWA artist royalties; his producer royalties; and an author’s share of a catalog of songs for which he does not own publishing rights, which may include an author’s share of songs on his The Chronic album.”

Dre continued to build his wealth through investments and real estate. He recently sold his Malibu, California home for $16.5 million.
