Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg reunite in a new short film tied to Snoop’s latest album Missionary.
The project, co-released by Death Row, Aftermath and Interscope Records, marks the iconic duo’s first major collaboration since 1993’s Doggystyle, the album that redefined West Coast hip-hop and cemented them as status as a pioneer in the genre.
The partnership between Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre has always been built on trust and mutual respect, which Dre talked about when describing his role in shaping the project.
“It comes with a huge amount of trust,” Dr. Dre told the Los Angeles Times. “You know, Snoop put his entire career, his legacy and everything he’s built into my hands. So I have to really nurture it and make sure it’s presented in the right way.
One of the highlights of the new album is “Last Dance With Mary Jane,” a standout track featuring Tom Petty and Jelly Roll.
Dr. Dre shared the backstory of Petty’s connection to the song, recalling a conversation with the rock icon facilitated by Interscope co-founder Jimmy Iovine.
“I have a clip where Tom Petty says, ‘If Dre tried the song ‘Mary Jane’s Last Dance,’ his hands would immediately Be welcomed.
The song is a blend of nostalgic and forward-thinking sounds that exemplify the duo’s artistic depth.
Snoop Dogg believes “Preacher” reflects his maturity as an artist and the creativity that Dr. Dre continues to bring to him.
