Donald Trump claimed a “great victory” in the presidential election after winning a series of battleground states.
While votes were still being counted in key states, Trump declared himself the winner in the early hours of Wednesday (November 6) while addressing supporters at the Palm Beach County Convention Center.
“I want to thank the American people for the honor of electing you as your 47th president and your 45th president,” Trump began. “This is an unprecedented movement,” he added. “Frankly, I believe this is the greatest political movement of all time.”
Trump told supporters at his victory party that he would “fight for you, your families and your future” and “help our country heal.”
As of this writing, Trump is just three Electoral College votes away from the 270 votes needed to win. He carried key battleground states such as Pennsylvania, Georgia and North Carolina, with results expected soon in Arizona, Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin.
NBC News reported that Trump also led the popular vote by nearly 5 million votes as of 2:30 a.m. ET, with the Republican candidate claiming another victory.
“Winning the popular vote is great,” he said. “It’s a great feeling of love.”
Trump immediately moved to address his planned crackdown on illegal immigration.
“We are going to have to seal these borders,” he added. “We have to get them back, but they have to come back legally.”
Trump also invited his running mate JD Vance to the stage to address the crowd.
“Mr. President, I thank you for allowing me to go on this incredible journey with you. “I think we’ve just witnessed the greatest political renaissance in the history of the United States of America. ”
