After a mixed reception to her performance of Diamonds Are Forever at the 2025 Oscars, Doja Cat is speaking out. During the tribute to James Bond films, which included other renditions by Lisa and Raye, Doja’s take on the Shirley Bassey classic drew criticism from some viewers.
On Instagram, Doja addressed the feedback, acknowledging that nerves got the best of her. “I never get to sing like that and what I did was brave and scary as f*** for me,” she wrote. “I know a lot of people didn’t like it but a lot of people did and I feel good that I pushed myself.”
She further explained, “The song is a classic and I put a lot of work into it but the nerves got to me and a b**** hit some flats. I can’t wait to do something like that again. What a blessing that was. I feel amazing about the whole thing.”
Doja also took the opportunity to praise her fellow performers, adding, “ALL the girls chewed down last night. God BLESS them all. Absolutely gorgeous performances from everyone.”
Despite the criticism, Doja’s message is clear: she’s proud of stepping out of her comfort zone, and she’s ready for what’s next.
