DJ Quik will not tolerate any slander from DeVante Swing during his tenure and has released a message in response to Stevie J’s recent accusations of misconduct against the singer.
In a recent Facebook post, DJ Quik came to the defense of his old friend and R&B legend Swing, refuting Stevie J’s recent accusations. It was an accusation that DJ Quik was quick to label as baseless. In a message he shared from Swing’s official FB page, Quick called out Stevie J for claiming that the Jodeci producer had or would lay hands on someone, let alone another artist.
“I have to share my two cents on what Stevie J shared in an interview about DeVanté Swing slapping his artist – it sounds like it was fabricated,” DJ Quik wrote in the post. “I think Stevie J has some serious jealousy issues with DeVanté’s talent and success.”
Quik, who has known Swing for many years and considers him a close friend, was adamant about the malicious nature of Stevie J’s claims as he continued. Given his allegiance to the ’90s R&B maven, he didn’t hesitate to criticize Stevie J, suggesting the accusations stemmed from the producer-turned-reality TV star’s time in the spotlight with Swing during his illustrious career deeper problems faced.
“DeVante is a genius, man. He writes some of the biggest hits in R&B history, and he’s been doing it for decades,” he wrote. “Stevie J, on the other hand, has had some success, but he can’t reach Devante’s level of talent.”
Quik’s post went on to accuse Stevie J of having a long-standing hatred of Swing, which he believes drives him to speak negatively about him every chance he gets.
“Stevie J has been trying to smear Devante for years. He’s always badmouthing him in interviews and trying to make him look bad,” he claimed. “But at the end of the day, Devante is still the guy with the hits, the awards and the respect in the industry.”
Finally, DJ Quik assured his fans, “So, all my fans, don’t believe the hype. Stevie J is just a hater and DeVanté Swing is the real MVP.”
The roots of the feud date back several years and have been characterized by competitive tensions and public spats between the two producers. In 2017, Stevie J appeared on the Drink Champs podcast where he claimed Swing attacked Missy Elliot, Timbaland and Ginuwine, who were all part of his Mob label at the time.
