DJ Akademiks is a well-known hip-hop artist often mired in controversy and was recently sued for sexual assault, rape and defamation. The survivor, who briefly dated the academician after an interaction on the Internet, filed a lawsuit in 2021 detailing the encounter in graphic detail.
According to the charges filed, the two had not been in contact for more than a year when Academician invited the survivor to his New Jersey address. The charges also involve two other men who reportedly drugged the survivor on the pool deck of the Fellows’ courtyard. After losing consciousness, the survivor went on to recount horrific details of the attack and rape, before she woke up around 4 a.m. the next day to find the academicians in the middle of a crime.
The survivor also reported seeing a video of the traumatic incident captured on a monitor in the courtyard, which was provided to her by the academician himself. The academicians also asked the survivor to get tested and said he would do the same. Additionally, survivors claimed to have taken rape kits, as well as recordings of academicians talking about the act following police instructions.
While she initially decided not to press charges, it appears that there is an opportunity for the survivor to reconsider this position and file a lawsuit to seek justice and dignity. This happened during the 2023 Academician live broadcast, where the defendant talked about the incident, implying that the survivor voluntarily participated in the orgy with the Academician’s friends, but not him. This point essentially forms the basis of the defamation portion of the charge.
The story was first reported by Rolling Stone and is awaiting comment from the defendants.
