Yasiin Bey (aka Mos Def) made headlines in January for classifying Drake as pop music rather than hip-hop. Drake fired back at Bey in an Instagram post.
Fast forward to May, and Bey appears to be taking shots at Drake, J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar. Some fans refer to those Grammy-winning rappers as the “Big Three.”
“Greedy, dirty, creepy. Stale, hungry, boring. Bougie, goofy, moody. Stupid, heartless, ignorant. A variation on the small Big 3.
Kendrick Lamar appears on Future and Metro Boomin’s single “Like That.” The Compton native used the song to spark a main event clash with Drake, which also saw the two stars diss a record eight times.
Yasiin Bey’s criticism of Drake comes after Lamar took aim at the OVO leader’s authenticity as a hip-hop artist throughout the battle. Bay praised Drake after receiving backlash online for his pop music comments.
“What I will say is, this young man is extremely talented,” Yassinbe said of the Canadian entertainer. “He’s been very successful with that talent, and I have no problem with that success or anything he’s accomplished with that talent.”
