Although Mrs. Dash suggested he was the one to sell his stake in the legendary record label, he was stripped of the sale after losing a copyright infringement lawsuit against film director Josh Weber.
Christopher Brown, Webber’s representative in the controversy, told Rolling Stone in April that only he and the U.S. Marshal could sell the shares.

Due to the size of Dash’s debt and the numerous claimants coming forward, the public auction of shares was recently postponed to September 21.
The auction was initially intended to repay Dash’s nearly $1 million debt to Weber, but other parties have also made claims to the funds raised from the auction.
Both New York State and New York City want funds from the sale, with New York City claiming Dash owes $197,000 in unpaid child support and New York State wanting some of the money to help settle Dash’s alleged $8.7 million tax debt.
The minimum bid for shares was also raised from $1.2 million to £3 million to pay off Dash’s debt, and the delay was also used to develop a plan for how the funds would be distributed after the sale.
